10 Tips to Drink More Water

Oops, oops, oops. Today and tomorrow it will be tropically warm with temperatures of 35 degrees. Super important to drink at least 2 liters of water these days, but preferably even 3 liters. Do you have trouble drinking enough water? Then we have 10 tips for you that will help you drink more water.

1. Buy a refillable water bottle

Buy a refillable drinking bottle and take it with you everywhere. Or put 1 in the car, 1 at work and 1 at home. This will save you a lot of single-use plastic waste. The drinking water in the Netherlands is of very good quality. Yet almost 21 million kilos of plastic bottles are thrown away in the Netherlands every year. This is estimated to be around 900 million plastic bottles. Isn't that a waste?

2. Use an app

Make drinking water fun! With an app you can track exactly how much you have drunk. You can set a goal and this motivates you to reach your daily goal of 2L of water.

3. Spice up your water with vegetables, fruit or herbs

People often complain that water tastes like nothing. By adding vegetables, fruits or herbs to your water you make the taste a bit more interesting and it is easier to drink more water. For example, add cucumber, mango or mint to your water. This way your water is a lot less boring!

4. Give yourself a reward

Make it a game and reward yourself when you have reached your goal of 2 liters of water for a week. By rewarding yourself you give it a positive twist and drinking water suddenly becomes fun ;)

5. Set a timer on your phone

Set a timer on your phone to remind you to drink water at set times. This way you will be reminded to drink a glass of water regularly throughout the day.

6. Drink a glass of water before every meal

Make it a habit to drink a glass of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's an easy way to remind yourself to drink water and you've already crossed off 3 glasses of water.

7. Eat your water

Are you having trouble drinking those 8 glasses of water? Consider eating your water. Many fruits and vegetables contain a high percentage of water. Eating this alone will not be enough to meet your daily water needs, but it certainly helps to get more water in. And of course it is a healthier snack than chocolate or chips ;)

Cucumber, lettuce, celery, radish, tomatoes, bell peppers, cauliflower, watermelon, spinach, strawberries, broccoli, grapefruit, apricots, cherries, grapes and zucchini.

So snack on these to get more water.

8. Drink a glass of water after using the toilet

Start new habits. Drink a glass of water every time you go to the toilet. You lose fluid when you pee, so replenish that bite.

Remember: Drink a glass after every pee.

9. Drink through a straw

With a straw you can drink more in a shorter time. You take bigger sips. Don't believe it? Try it yourself ;)

Oh, and please don't use disposable plastic straws, but purchase eco-friendly stainless steel or bamboo straws.

10. Always keep the water close to you

Keep your water bottle in plain sight and close to you so you are reminded every time to drink water.
