Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum 30 ML

Mad Hippie powerful Vitamin C serum that reduces hyperpigmentation and wrinkles!

This Award winning vitamin C serum from Mad Hippie is a harmonic blend of antioxidants that do wonders for aging and sun-damaged skin. Reduces wrinkles and hyper pigmentation and prevents photo aging. The form of vitamin C used in this serum is sodium ascorbyl phosphate (STAY-C® 50). This is a very stable form of vitamin C with a high bioavailability.

Mad Hippie Vitamin C

Mad Hippie uses a different form of vitamin C than other companies. The most commonly used is ascorbic acid, which is very acidic and cannot easily pass through the lipid barrier of the skin. For this you need a concentration of around 15-20% to be effective. It can also cause acne outbreaks, since the ascorbic acid is on top of the skin and causes irritation.

Mad Hippie uses sodium ascorbyl phosphate instead, which is ascorbic acid with a salt molecule. This makes it easy to go through the lipid barrier of the skin, making it much more bioavailable. It also adds to its stability, making it less sensitive to oxidation (a major concern for ascorbic acid). Our serum will also fight acne outbreaks!

Mad Hippie does not give exact percentages of most ingredients, because we do not want to focus our customers on just one ingredient when it is really about the gestalt of the formulation, where all different actives work together. For example, the addition of ferulic acid + vitamin E was recently shown in a Duke study to topically double-protect photo protection of vitamin C.

You also cannot easily compare different forms of vitamins by percentage, as some are considerably more biologically available than others. Our vitamin C serum is very powerful, yet soft. It would compare in effectiveness on a product with 20% ascorbic acid. The manufacturer of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate recommends a 3-5% range. We are considerably higher than this.

The percentage of Vitamin C needed in skincare products varies depending on the form of Vitamin C used. We use a very stable and bioavailable form of vitamin C called sodium ascorbyl phosphate. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is approximately twice as effective as L-ascorbic acid, the most commonly used form if Vitamin C used in skin care, which is not utilized as well by the skin.

We use approximately a 10% concentration of sodium ascorbyl phosphate, which is equivalent to about a 20% concentration of L-ascorbic acid in its effectiveness. Most of the L-ascorbic acid, when applied, sits on the skin’s surface without being absorbed and utilized and often causes irritation as a result. The primary difference is that sodium ascorbyl phosphate, the form of vitamin C that we use, has a salt attached to it, allowing it to penetrate the skin’s lipid barrier and making it more bioavailable. This also makes it much more stable and less prone to oxidation, which is a huge problem with L-AA.

It is great to improve the appearance of the skin, reduce hyperpigmentation and combat acne.

FAQ

What is the percentage of vitamin C? Our Vitamin C Serum utilizes sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP), a form of vitamin C that is much more stable and less prone to oxidation than some traditionally used forms of vitamin C. This serum is wonderful for both sensitive and acne-prone skin! The recommended percentage for efficacy without irritation is different for various forms of vitamin C, and therefore they cannot be compared simply on a percentage basis. Our serum would be comparable to a 15-20% L-ascorbic acid serum. We use a combination of vitamin C, vitamin E and ferulic acid as this trio of ingredients has been shown to offer a compounding antioxidant effect.

Is this supposed to be clear? A pale yellow, cloudy serum is not outside the realm of normal for our Vitamin C Serum due to the plant extracts (such as chamomile, clary sage, and konjac) used in the formulations.

Do I need to use sunscreen if Vitamin C Serum is applied in the morning? Our Vitamin C Serum is rich in antioxidants making it a great choice for daytime use, however it doesn't replace a sunscreen. We recommend wearing a physical blocking sunscreen daily to help protect your skin from damage.

What is the consistency like? The Vitamin C Serum is a thin, gel-like serum that absorbs quickly and easily into skin.

Is this good for acne-prone skin? Our Vitamin C Serum is wonderful for easily congested and oily skin types. It is a concentrated blend of vitamin C, ferulic acid, and vitamin E along with nutrient-rich konjac root.

Do I apply this morning, night, or both? We recommend using our Vitamin C Serum in the morning and exfoliants like our Vitamin A Serum or Exfoliating Serum, at night. If you are not using another serum at night, you may apply the Vitamin C Serum twice a day.

How much am I supposed to use? We recommend using a dime-sized amount of Vitamin C Serum, which is usually enough to cover face and neck.

Does this have a fragrance? We do not use synthetic fragrances in our line, however, this serum does contain konjac root, chamomile and clary sage extracts which do impart a faint aroma. It does not have a strong smell and dissipates quickly.

It is called "A Miracle Worker" by Allure, "Glow-Getter Serum" by InStyle and received many prizes. We welcome people to try this product compared to other vitamin C serums and decide for themselves.

The Mad Hippie Vitamin C serum is the big favorite of Victoria's Secret model Bridget Malcolm.
