Use

Yumbox is designed for packing wet food, but not liquids, such as water. To ensure the food stays in place and does not leak to other compartments, follow 4 simple steps as described below:

1. Do not overfill compartments (3/4 full)

2. Remove excess liquid from tinned fruit, applesauce and yoghurt

3. Place a kitchen paper under watery fruit such as watermelon and citrus fruits to absorb excess liquid

3. Keep contents cool by adding an ice pack to your lunch bag

4. When you close Yumbox, press the lid with the palm of your hand and snap the latch into the closed position to create the best seal

Yumbox is not suitable for thin liquids such as yoghurt drinks, thin yoghurt varieties, soups or liquid/watery dressings. Pack foods with a thick consistency such as ranch dressing, ketchup, hearty salsas, hummus, thick greek yoghurt and veggie dips. These are all great options. Some oily vinaigrettes can leak from the dipping cavity. One trick that can help keep vinaigrettes in place is to dress the salad and top it with a few croutons. The croutons absorb excess oil/liquid and prevent the vinaigrette from seeping into an adjacent compartment.

If you are not sure if your food choice is too liquidy to pack, we recommend a quick test before sending your child to school with that food. Simply add the test food to a compartment, close the Yumbox tightly and give it a good shake or two (or leave it on its side for 10 minutes). Return the Yumbox to its normal position and open to check the results.

Cleaning

The Yumbox Prêt should be washed by hand in warm soapy water. Make sure to dry the lunchbox thoroughly before storing it. Do not close the lunchbox completely during storage to ensure sufficient air circulation. Thanks to the rounded edges, high-quality silicone lid and stainless steel, the lunchbox is easy to clean.

Special care instructions for the silicone seal: make sure you empty the contents every day, hand wash with warm soapy water and thoroughly dry your Yumbox and dry it overnight in an open, upright position (like a tent) before storing it. If you live in a humid environment, also leave the Yumbox ajar, not closed during storage. If you regularly pack oily food, cover it once a week overnight with a paste of baking soda to prevent build-up.

We recommend always storing your bread bin with the lid open when not in use to allow the seal to dry completely. If you store your bread bin with the lid closed, mould may develop.
